About Us
Who are we?
We are a couple of ordinary people from Kent, England.
Chris Irons is Logistics Manager at Helvar Ltd, a lighting controls manufacturing company based just outside Dartford, Kent.
Chris is a keen mountain biker and has done previous coast-to-coast bike challenges in England and Wales. He took part in the 3 peaks challenge in 2005 and the London Triathlon in 2006. Chris is active in his local youth football team, Woodpecker FC in Hoo, Medway, and 2nd Cliffe Scout group in Cliffe, Medway, and has organised numerous sponsorship events for these groups.
He would like to do something to give children less fortunate than those in his area an opportunity to appreciate some of the basic things we in the UK take for granted. In his experience helping kids by giving them new skills and knowledge is the most rewarding way to spend your time, and Build Africa looks an ideal way to make these wishes come true.
Peter Farrington is I.T. Manager at Helvar Ltd. He is not as fit as Chris, and it will be more of an effort for him to get prepared for the 100km walk in April, 2008. But he is determined to lose a bit of weight and get fit.
He used to do a lot of walking when he was younger, and most holidays he would be out on the mountains. But marriage, a family and a desk job have all made it more difficult to get out and keep active.
Peter is active in his local British Orthodox Church in Chatham, Kent. He spends a lot of time republishing obscure and out-of-print Christian books. He has been to Senegal and the Gambia for some months in the past, not on holiday but to stay with agencies working there.
