Latest News - January - April 2008
10th March: Kit List. Peter and Chris are getting a kit list together. We'll not be too far from civilization but there could certainly be wind and rain, maybe even snow, on the Cheviots in April so we need to make sure that we have everything necessary to keep us safe.
12th February: Practice Walks are well underway at the weekends. Peter's boots started losing their soles. In fact he had to finish his last walk without a sole on one boot as it had just given up the ghost. Time for some new boots!
22nd January: Everything Kent, a new, local directory, has just launched, and is sponsoring Walking For Africa. Peter has been involved in setting this directory up, and all of the profits will be directed through Walking For Africa to the work of Build Africa.
A listing on the directory costs only £10 for a year, and Peter and Chris are hoping that this will help to reach the target of £4000.
15th January: Douglas Alexander, Secretary of State for International Development wrote to WfA saying,

I am delighted to offer my support to initiatives such as this sponsored walk. It is always exciting to hear of people giving up their time and energies to help those in poverty around the world. The passionate desire shown by individuals such as yourselves to act now and tackle suffering is one that I share deeply. I wish you all the best with your fund raising venture.
8th January: Training in earnest begins. Now that we are 3 and a half months away from our challenge we are both developing personal training programmes to make sure we are prepared for the 100km of the St Cuthbert's Way. Over the next few weeks Peter and Chris will begin some short training walks, slowly building up the distance. Peter is doing rowing every night, and Chris is continuing to do his cycling.
7th January: Business Sponsorship Campaign being prepared. Christmas and the New Year are over now, so we have decided that this is the right time to start contacting local businesses to generate some additional sponsorship.
We will be offering businesses an advert and link on our Business Sponsors page, as well as rotating adverts throughout the site. If you are a business and would like to sponsor us then please donate some funds and contact us to see what we can do. If you know a business owner then urge them to sponsor us. Every penny we raise will be going to Build Africa.
