17th December: Julie Morgan, MP is supporting our challenge. She says...
"I am very happy to offer my support to this
venture. We all know the value of education and during overseas visits I have seen the enthusiasm that so many children in the developing world show for schooling, especially in eastern Africa. I therefore know how welcome any money you raise will be and hope that it will go a long way towards helping children get the sort of education that can prove life-changing. I appreciate the hard work that goes into arranging an expedition like this, and you have chosen a very beautiful part of northern Britain in which to complete your challenge. I would like to end by offering you the best of luck with the preparation and the challenge itself!"
6th December: Mark Durkan, MP, MLA and Leader of the SDLP Party has kindly sent us a message of encouragement. He says...
"I am very pleased to support Peter Farrington, Chris Irons and Walking for Africa in their fantastic project to walk the route of St Cuthbert's Way on behalf of people in Kenya and Uganda. In my maiden speech to Parliament, I focused on the great issue of global justice that is the underdevelopment of that great continent.
Having visited wonderful communities in Malawi while a Northern Ireland Minister, I am all too aware of the wonderful warmth and enormous potential of her people. In walking from Scotland to Holy Island, Peter and Chris will send a symbolic message of how hope can cross physical barriers and human endurance. I wish everyone involved the best of luck and a successful partnership with your new African friends."
6th December: The fantastic postcards from Giraffe Cards have arrived! Thanks again to them for all their support. We now have 1000 full colour A6 cards to use with our various promotional activities.
2nd December: Our search engine optimisation is bearing fruit. If you visit google.co.uk and search for 'sponsored walk northumbria' we come up first! And if you search for 'sponsored walk africa' we come up third! Not bad for just a month of activity and effort.
