St Cuthbert's Way

We are walking the complete length of the Saint Cuthbert's Way, 100km from Melrose in Scotland to Lindisfarne in Northumbria.

Map of St Cuthberts Way

The walk begins at the town of Melrose, where St Cuthbert spent his early life, and follows the route to Lindisfarne where he became its most famous Abbot and Bishop. It also passes St Cuthbert's cave, a remote feature where his body was hidden when the Vikings destroyed Lindisfarne.

The route passes through some beautiful countryside, and over the Cheviots, joining up briefly with the Pennine Way around Kirk Yetholm. This is the only long distance footpath where the walk has to be planned with the state of the tides in mind, since it is only possible to cross over to Lindisfarne, and the end of the journey, at certain times of the day.

The walk will be broken into four days.

Day 1 - Melrose to Harestanes - 26 km.

Day 2 - Harestanes to Yetholm - 27 km.

Day 3 - Yetholm to Wooler - 21 km.

Day 4 - Wooler to Lindisfarne - 28 km.

Hopefully one of our family supporters will drop us off at Melrose early on the day of our first section, and pick us up from Lindisfarne at the end of our last day.
