Why do it?
We are committed to this challenge for a variety of reasons.
Firstly, it is always good to help people, especially communities where a relatively small amount of support can produce a great deal of benefit. And this is especially so in the case of supporting education in East Africa.
There is the old saying, 'Give a man a fish and he eats for a day, teach him to fish and he eats for the rest of his life'. This certainly applies in the case of the children of Kenya and Uganda. Providing them with the resources to enjoy a quality education will allow the whole community to rise out of poverty.
It is just an obviously good thing to support the work of Build Africa in Kenya and Uganda.
Here is what we are supporting....

Build Africa work with communities in Africa, especially Kenya and Uganda, who are trying to provide an education for their children but face almost insurmountable problems due to lack of resources. Here is a class of children trying to receive an education sitting under a tree! This hardly makes the most of these children's abilities and education has to be cancelled whenever the weather is too bad.

Once a community has been selected, Build Africa help them to organise themselves to properly manage the improvement of their children's education. Build Africa work with local people and the project is very much their own with funding and support provided by Build Africa.

Here are some happy children outside their new classroom! Build Africa do more though. They provide desks and classroom furniture, sanitation facilities, HIV/AIDS awareness (very important in East Africa - lifesaving even), and more.
This is a good thing. And Peter and Chris want to help support what Build Africa is doing.
Secondly, Peter is a committed Orthodox Christian, a member of the British Orthodox Church, and the Christian teaching about helping others and giving time, effort and money to support those in need is clear.
The work of Build Africa just seems a very good way to put his Christian faith into action.
Thirdly, this is a good excuse for Peter and Chris to get out on the hills and enjoy some fresh air for four days. Chris is no stranger to long distance walks and cycle rides, but this is the first expedition that Peter and Chris have planned together.
